The Mountain States Employers Council, a Denver-based nonprofit that specializes in providing employment law and human resources services to employers, said Tuesday that it’s acquiring a Phoenix-based nonprofit in the same space.
The deal makes the council the largest employer association in the nation.
Besides offering human resource and employment law expertise, the 70-year-old Mountain States provides management/leadership training and compensation/benefit surveys.
“This business model has proven successful in Colorado and the Mountain West, and we look forward to working with the Arizona business community to develop the same value proposition for employers in Phoenix and greater Arizona,” said Michael Severns, the association’s president and chief executive officer.
Severns said Mountain States has been interested in expanding geographically for a number of years. The organization’s membership historically has included employers with Arizona operations, he said.
The new, larger association will have 3,500 member employers with combined employment of nearly 800,000.
