Phone Outage Closes One Of State’s Largest Courthouses

LAW WEEK COLORADO
ARAPAHOE COUNTY — One of the state’s largest courthouses, the Arapahoe County Justice Center at 7325 S. Potomac St., has been closed “due to power and telephone outages,” the state court system reported today.
The power went out at 10:30 a.m., and the building was reopened at 1:30 p.m.
Some trials were temporarily put on hold, court spokesman Jon Sarche said over the lunch hour. However, any disruption was deemed insignificant because “the outage occurred so close to the lunch hour, and it appears it will be resolved sooner than the 1:30 estimate.”
Some people are still in the building, but there was no evacuation ordered.
“People could leave if they chose to, but could not return because the security machines at the entrance were down,” Sarche said.
The justice center and and its administration building are sites of a two-phase renovation, according to Hyder Inc., a construction firm. The first phase, completed in February, consisted of a 12,000-square-foot renovation of the administration building. The second phase is an 80,000-square-foot remodel of the justice center and courthouse.
Arapahoe County is served by three courts: the Arapahoe County Justice Center, the Arapahoe County Courthouse in Aurora, and the Arapahoe County Courthouse in Littleton.
