Thursday Trial Watch: Balloon Boy’s Family Will Plead Guilty

David Lane, attorney for Colorado parents of Balloon Boy, said the Heenes will plead guilty to some charges and serve probation so the family can stay together.

In the trial of Greeley real estate builder Mark Strodtman, a couple told a Weld District Court jury that after buying they were told their house payments would be hundreds less a month than they actually were. Strodtman is on trial for 11 counts of forgery, 11 counts of theft and one count of racketeering for a series of homes sales from 2004–07.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday against Payless ShoeSource Inc. in a dispute with an insurance company about a $2.5 million payout for Payless employees, stemming from the shoe company’s violation of labor laws.

Union taxi attorney Ray Gifford of Denver firm Kamlet Reichert said he plans to appeal to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission on grounds that the exclusive deal between Cherry Creek Shopping Center and two Denver taxi companies is anti-competitive.

Boulder city attorney Jerry Gordon said he doesn’t believe that the city council legalized marijuana, despite a confusing emergency ordinance aimed at regulating where medical marijuana dispensaries can operate.

Colorado Springs Municipal Judge Spencer Graham ruled late Tuesday that local officials did not target Douglas Bruce and another anti-tax activist when they were cited for trespassing.
