Two Downtown Lawyers Swept To Douglas Board Victory With GOP Backing

Two of the four Republican-backed Douglas County school board candidates who bested four teachers union-backed candidates work for large law firms with offices in Denver.
John Carson, who represents District B, is of counsel to the Denver office of Snell & Wilmer, which has its headquarters in Phoenix. He won re-election.
Doug Benevento, who will be responsible for District E, is of counsel in the Denver office of Greenberg Traurig, an international law firm with headquarters in Miami. He was a cabinet member in the administration of Republican Gov. Bill Owens. Benevento is a new member of the school board.
Although traditionally nonpartisan, the routine school board race became heated when the Douglas County Republican Party announced its endorsement of Carson, Benevento, Dan Gerken and Meghann Silverthorn, The Denver Post reported.
