LAW WEEK COLORADO
Another Colorado judge is retiring.
Cynthia M. Hartman, elevated only two years ago by Gov. Bill Ritter to the Larimer County Court bench, will step down Nov. 30, the 8th Judicial District Nominating Commission announced Friday. She’s the fourth judge this election cycle to indicate she won’t run for retention in November. The others are Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey, Appeals Court Judge Sean Connelly and Douglas County Court Judge Michelle Ann Marker.
Hartman began her service as a district court magistrate in 1998 specializing in family law and small claims court. She was in private practice in Loveland for four years starting in 1977. From 1981 to 1998 she was a staff attorney and later managing attorney for the Larimer County office of Colorado Rural Legal Services (now Colorado Legal Services).
The nominating commission said it would meet Aug. 16 at the Larimer County Justice Center to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to Hartman’s seat.
Details on applying are published below. The application deadline is Aug. 9.
The members of the nominating commission for the Eighth Judicial District are: Easter Girard of Cowdrey; Jeffrey Swanty and Mark Shaffer both of Loveland; Linda Miller, Walta Ruff and Jennifer Rice, all of Ft. Collins; and Keith Holsinger of Walden.
