LAW WEEK COLORADO
DENVER — The organization that puts out the Colorado Firefighter Calendar is being sued by the state, which seeks to dissolve Fired Up for Kids so a successor organization can continue its mission as a nonprofit.
The Colorado attorney general’s office alleges Fired Up for Kids is registered as nonprofit even though it acts as a for-profit company. Kirsten Hamling, Fired Up for Kids’ sole board member for most of its existence, has used the group’s money for personal uses such as trips to hair and nail salons, gym memberships and airplane trips to California, the complaint alleges.
The lawsuit became necessary after Hamling resigned from the organization in September and refused to turn over to a successor the intellectual and physical property of the organization, including its bank accounts, the attorney general’s office said.
