Montrose Judge Retiring

DENVER — The Colorado Judicial Department announced that Judge Diana Barber will retire from the Montrose County bench at the end of March. Judge Barber graduated from Northern Illinois University Law School.  She spent 16 years in private practice in Illinois before moving to Colorado, where she worked for two years for Colorado Legal Services in Durango.  Judge Barber was appointed to the Montrose County Court bench in 2006.  Her position with the court is part-time.

Commission sets date to select nominees

 

The Seventh Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet March 19, 2012, at the Montrose County Justice Center (1200 N. Grand Ave., Montrose, CO 81401), to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to the office of associate county judge for Montrose County.  The vacancy will be created by the retirement of the Honorable Diana Barber.  The vacancy will occur on March 30, 2012.

To be eligible for appointment to fill the vacancy, an applicant must be a qualified elector of Montrose County and must be admitted to the practice of law in Colorado.  The applicant must also reside in the Southwest Water Conservation District (see map below).  This is a part-time (20 percent) position with an annual salary of $24,613.  The initial term of office of a county judge is a provisional term of two years; thereafter, the incumbent county judge, if retained by the voters, has a term of four years.

The original and seven copies of the application must be filed with the ex officio chair no later than 4 p.m., Feb. 29, 2012.  Late applications will not be considered.  Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill the vacancy may do so by letter to be submitted to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex officio chair, no later than 4 p.m., Feb. 22, 2012.

The members of the nominating commission for the Seventh Judicial District are: Tina McGuinness and Pamela Montgomery, Gunnison; Kevin Geiger, Telluride; Rebecca Vickers, Lake City; Stephen Mathis, Montrose; William Raley, Delta; and Andrew Mueller, Ridgway.
