Legal Community Donates Nearly $60,000 in Food and Cash to Annual Drive
DENVER— Members of the legal community donated food and dollars totaling $59,631 to hunger relief organization Metro CareRing through the Denver Bar Association’s 13th Annual Roll Out the Barrels Food Drive, surpassing last year’s donations by more than $18,000.
Fifty-seven firms participated in the drive, collecting 6,812 pounds of food and $38,507 in cash donations. This year’s top donating groups are Orten Cavanagh Richmond & Holmes, LLC; McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP; the Colorado Court of Appeals; Faegre Baker Daniels LLP; and Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell. The food drive was sponsored by the Denver Bar Association’s Community Action Network and ran April 16 to 27.
“With summer just around the corner and students being let out of school, we know this can be a tough time for families,” said CAN Committee Chair Kris Reed, a partner with Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton. “We hope this drive can make a difference and keep those families from having to choose between a nutritious meal and another necessity.”
Metro CareRing operates one of the largest food pantries in Denver. The food and money donated will translate to approximately 23,000 meals for families in Denver, based on meal cost estimates from Feeding America.
“Metro CareRing is truly grateful for the outpouring of the Denver Bar Association’s generosity,” said Metro CareRing Food Resources Director Ryan Galanaugh. “With one out of four children in Denver hungry, their substantial gifts will have a tremendous impact on helping end Colorado’s hunger epidemic.”
In 2011, the food drive collected more than $41,000 in food and cash to benefit Metro CareRing. The Community Action Network Committee offers DBA members year-round opportunities to connect with the community and provide valuable legal, social and civic assistance to those in need.
