San Miguel County Judge Sharon Shuteran Dies In Mexico

Sharon Shuteran, a 30-plus year resident of Telluride and San Miguel County Court judge died on Saturday, May 5, in Cabo Pulmo, Baja California, the Telluride Watch reports.

She was found dead, presumably of natural causes, by a search party that was dispatched when she failed to return from a morning hike, the newspaper reported.

She is survived by her son, Eliot Muckerman, and her sister, Stephanie.

Shuteran received her law degree from the University of Denver. She was admitted to practice in Colorado in 1978. She worked as a VISTA attorney for legal services in 1978 and 1979. She served as the town judge for Ophir and assistant town judge in Telluride, and was a deputy district attorney before being appointed San Miguel County Court Judge in September 1984.

On Tuesday, the Colorado Judicial Branch took the first steps to finding a successor for Shuteran on the San Miguel bench.
