HICKENLOOPER HAS BEEN BUSY, between last week’s announcement of a new Colorado Court of Appeals judge to Monday’s announcement that Denver will be the site of a new Patent and Trademark Office to Tuesday’s naming of Elizabeth Starrs as the newest member of the Denver District Court bench to Monday, seems he can’t get a moment’s rest.

HE WAS ALSO BUSY, naming two nonattorney members to the 13th and 17th Judicial District Nominating Commissions.

IN MORE JUDICIAL NEWS, there’s a new opening on the Montrose County Court bench.

LAW FIRM MERGERS ARE DOWN for the 2nd Quarter, but still up overall. While legal consultancies Altman Weil and the Hildebrandt Institute report that mergers involving U.S. law firms were down in the second quarter of 2012 compared to the same period last year, statistics show that the industry saw more tie-ups in the first half of this year than it did during the first six months of 2011.
